I've always been interested in the environment and technology. As I've got older and seen the damage we've done to the environment I've become interested in how our modern life affects the environment and nature around us, and how we can make changes to our lives to help address the issues the environment faces..
For many people home energy and transport use are likely to be the top contributors towards their carbon foot print. Modern life sadly brings a reliance on energy use. From heating our homes, powering our appliances and propelling our cars these all use energy without us giving it a second thought. Each of us relies heavily on oil and gas, that's something we will need to change in the future.
"Clean, renewable energy is a vital tool in our plans to reduce the worst effects of climate change. Replacing fossil fuels with wind and solar to power our homes and businesses will dramatically cut our greenhouse gas emissions", Greenpeace.
Technology can potentially help us move away from our reliance on oil & gas, and towards greener energy sources. Whilst we should be able to rely on central governments to do this for us, sadly it's not really feasible to leave it up to our governments to make the necessary changes. Individually, no matter how large or small, we aid change and push us into new age that's hopefully better for the environment.
'Our Electric World' website will hopefully document our journey of changing our energy habits and our take up of technology in a move towards a more self-sufficient energy future. I'm hoping to document the steps we take, giving both the positives/negatives of these steps.
